Do you remember in this post when I said that, despite all the awful mishaps that went wrong, this dresser would turn out awesome? Well I stuck to my stubborn roots and finished it and it. is. AWESOME! I am very happy with how it turned out and even happier to finally have it done and serving its purpose in our home. The day I finished it was by far a great day. I got it in the house and all set up just before Mr. Awesome came home from his last final of the semester! Yippee for no school for the next 7 weeks (yes you read that right...7 weeks!) I can't wait to make my 5 mile long Honey Do List and I'm sure it will make him long to be back in school.
Alright, enough chit chat, meet the newest member of our Living Room Family!
Ol' Purple went from this
To this...nothing but a miserable failure
Then after much stripping and sanding, I prepared to start ALL OVER! My creative attempt at keeping paint from getting inside the drawers....Black Friday Ads worked wonders |
Then after a coat of primer, I had a little of my faith restored
I highly recommend using a grey primer if you are painting a dark color |
I did decide that I wanted to tone down the top a little as well as add some texture and what better way to do that then with some pretty black lace?
Courtney found this tutorial which inspired these lovely hurricanes that I filled with mini turquoise ornaments (on sale at Joann's for $2.50 a box) and this purple beaded branch (on sale at Joann's for $1.00) The total price to make this hurricane? $5.50! Awesome! I placed one on each side of the tv and called it good.
One last look at the before and after...

It turned out just great! Good for you for sticking to it - I usually have to walk away for a while after I have a crafting mishap :P

ReplyDeleteNice job on the dresser!! Thanks for stopping by my blog today!!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't normally think purple when seeing something like that, but you made it look fabulous!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the sweet comments everyone! I hope you will stick around to see what else we come up with :)
ReplyDeletefabulous! i have a dresser that i'd like to turn into a tv stand...but i'm having some trouble getting the boyfriend on board. he thinks i'm crazy, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh no! We gotta get him on board! I think dressers make the best tv stands and the conversion from dresser to tv stand is actually quite easy. I hope he gets on board soon. If you ever do do it, make sure to send me pictures. I would love to see :)
ReplyDeleteOh my Lord! This is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA great idea for an electronics cabinet or a sideboard. Now to find that free dresser. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove it! I think refurbishing is always the best option. There is nothing like a little elbow grease and making something out of nothing to transform something into your new favorite thing!
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect!! I love the color you chose!! Great job converting it to a console! I featured it today!!

Wow, that was a lot of work! But it turned out beautifully! I LOVE that color. Great project!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely worth the effort! I know it was trying, but it looks great!
ReplyDeletep.s. I painted my desk my daddy made for me when I was a kid the same color of purple a decade ago. I still love it.
Beautiful job! I have been wanting to do this for some time. After seeing your pictures, I have the go from hubby to find an old dresser to redo! If I may ask a few questions, what type of paint did you use and how did you apply it? I see the primer was sprayed...just wondered if you went back with a roller/brush or if you sprayed the final coats as well. Did you seal the paint in any way? I'm new to furniture painting...almost done with my first project (a bookcase). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is so adorable!!!! This is a cheap and amazing looking piece for a living room. I want to do this so bad when I move in to my own home. it adds a pop of color to any room and it hides dvds and games from sight...even better!!
ReplyDeleteI love the purple - I painted my front door this color several months back and I love it - I put "No." and my house number in white too.
ReplyDeletethis is so cute. love your ideas... :)
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what color paint you used and brand name? Love the color and want to refinish an end table in that color. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Thanks for the comments everyone. We love LOVE comments. I used Behr's Delicious Berry in High Gloss.
ReplyDeleteThanks again!

This is super gorgeous! I'm doing the same thing with an old dresser – removing the top drawers, adding shelves, and turning it into a tv stand. I was originally going to paint it blue, but when I saw this, I immediately fell in love with the color. And I was so glad you listed what color you used! The thing is, though, when I tracked down Behr's Delicious Berry, it looks nothing like the color in these pictures. The paint chip is a deep eggplant purple, and not a bright fuchsia. Are these pictures color-accurate? Does your dresser look darker in real life?
ReplyDeleteAgain, this is so beautiful! I'm glad you stuck with it. :)
I remember that the paint turned out much brighter than the sample looked. I thought about doing a glaze on it to deepen the purple but then it grew on me lol. The pictures are fairly accurate, I suppose they could make it appear brighter/more magenta but not by much.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it. Thanks for commenting!
