One Trick to Healthy Eating

It’s officially past Feb. 1st. The date that most New Years resolutions have already been broken. I’m proud to say that Mr. Awesome and I are still going strong on our challenge to get healthy.

One of the things we have learned that really help us with eating healthy, is to make sure we stock our fridge and pantry with healthy foods. Sounds easy right? Try saying that as you pass the Oreo cookies and 12 pack of Mountain Dew in the store. It gets better though. I’m learning that the longer you stick to healthy eating, the more you crave it and the more you don’t want to undo all your hard work. I still haven’t had soda yet (yay!) and for the most part, I don’t feel an overwhelming desire to have it. Now, you certainly don’t want to deprive yourself of the occasional treat. We count our calories and we check the nutrition facts when shopping so we can make informed decisions. However, we don’t feel like we are dieting at all. Probably because we aren’t. We’re simply changing our eating habits. We still treat ourselves to the occasional treat. For example, I will be eating a donut from Krispy Kreme tonight because well….it’s Krispy Kreme, what other reason do you need? I’ll also eat it without feeling one ounce of guilt, mostly because our dinner tonight is a big plate of salad complete with spinach, romaine lettuce, bell peppers, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, a little bit of cheese, sunflower seeds, a delicious low fat dressing, and a side of apples.

I thought I’d share just a few of  the things that we like to stock up on that help us eat healthy. SONY DSC We got spinach, quinoa (had it for the first time this week, will definitely be having it again), canned fruit, baby carrots, Greek yogurt, apples, bell peppers (one of our favorite!), bananas, Progresso Soup, orange Juice, and organic granola (love me some granola!)

A few of our other favorite things are sweet potatoes, frozen berries for smoothies, oranges, frozen bananas slices with peanut butter, high fiber whole wheat bread, lean turkey breast, and tomatoes. We love making sandwiches for lunch.

What are some of your all time favorite healthy snacks that you keep on hand?
